Matariki artwork

Hi Bloggers!

A while ago we made ponamu (Maori charms)
We used polymer clay to sculpt different symbols and then we cooked them
Here are the pictures.

Here is what we started with.

This is what I finished with.
(it's called the double twist)

Here's how we made them

1. I heated up the clay with our hands so that it was easy to mould
2. I sculpted the twist
3. We gave it to our teacher to be cooked
Later that day we got some cool clay necklaces!
The only hard thing was making the clay easy to mould!
When the clay was easier to mould we got to make our designs that was the fun bit.

Stop motion movies

Bonjour bloggers!
Today we made stop motion movies using the stop motion animator app.
We got play-dough and had to slowly take pictures (frames) of each movement to make it look like it was moving on its own. Stop motion is where you take lots of different pictures moving the character slightly in each photo so that when its all together it looks like a movie.
Here are two of my movies.

I really enjoyed doing this but I think I could make a better and longer animation next time. The first animation is called hide and seek and the second is calling swagness.

Des Hunt visit

Hi Bloggers!
A few weeks ago the author Des Hunt came to our school and taught us all about his life.
He told us about his first ever fictional book (The last Tuatara got published later in 2013) that didn't get published, he said he sent it to every publisher in NZ and got rejected every time. He realised that it was boring when he gave it away to his class (he was a teacher) and only four people finished reading it. His first book that he got published was A friend in paradise published in 2002.

Here are some pictures from the day.

Emoji word art

         Hi guys
We made some emoji word art using this website. ww.tagul.com
Tagul allows you to put down tons of words and it would put them in random order into shapes such as an emoji!
It was really fun.
We had to name an emotion for each letter of the alphabet.
Here is my emoji
(with one of my friends emoji)

It was really fun and the only sort of hard thing was thinking up emotions to put in the boxes. We got to mess around with different colours and shades!

Tsunami house

Hi Guys
We tried to make tsunami proof houses on tinkercad.
Before we made them we studied some different websites that told us some ways to make your house tsunami proof.
My house is floating with little holes for drainage and everything is bolted down.

The reading bit was pretty easy but i'm quite bad with tinkercad so I struggled with the building bit.

Tiritiri Matangi trip

Hi bloggers
We went on a trip to Tiritiri Matangi and saw lots of native birds.
We left school to go to the Ports of Auckland at about 8:00 and got on the ferry at 9:00.
All of us were excited just to go on the ferry!
On the ferry we got to go up stairs. The wind was really strong!
When we got on the island we were sorted into groups and sent on different trails.
It wasn't long before we saw a bird, some Brown teals (A type of duck) were looking in the grass for food. Out of all the birds we saw my favourite was the Bell bird.
We also saw Stitch birds, Saddle backs, Fantails, Red crowned parakeets, NZ Wood pigeons and we even saw a Takahe!
Did you know that if you see 3 Takahe you've seen 1% of the Takahe in the world!
Here are the photos we took on the day.
