Summer Learning Journey

Hi bloggers!
We are practising for the 2018 - 2019 Summer learning journey.
I would want to go to Malaysia because I am part Malaysian and my Mum's parents live there. Also they have the best dessert in the world...
Cendol!!!
(Cendol is ice, coconut milk and flour jelly and palm syrup. You can also add red beans if you want)
Malaysia is the 2nd biggest producers of refined tin!
Malaysia is home to the biggest tropical tree in the world named the Tualang which has a base diameter of over 10 feet! It also reaches the height of around 262 feet!
Malaysians keep watch over a body before it is burie
d because if a cat jumps over the coffin the corpse will come back as a ghoul!

Production rehearsals

Ola bloggers!
Last term we were told our roles in the production.
The production is named Pasifika Peter Pan. It's named Pasifika Peter Pan because we have a Pacific twist. For example now we include stuff like Samoa and Tonga.
My part isn't that big so in rehearsal I spend a lot of time watching. The production is quite good but it gets a bit boring after a while. Sometimes I spot a few logistical errors but apart from that I think the production is great!
Overall I enjoy rehearsals and I'm feeling pretty confident for the production if not a little nervous.
So those are my thoughts for the production.

Intermediate Production

Hi bloggers!
Yesterday we went to Waikowhai Intermediate to watch their show/production.
The show included dance, music and singing. We went down to the school by bus. We were very lucky for this because originally we were going to walk but the intermediate insisted on getting us buses. Thanks!😄
Unfortunately we are still waiting to see if we are able to put in pictures and videos.
Here is the link to their site though.
Check it out!

After the show we used deBono thinking hats to reflect on our time at the show.
Here is my reflection

If you don't know what the deBono thinking hats are they're basically different colour hats that represent different things.
The white hat represents information, this is where we had to put in what the show was about. The yellow hat represents the good things in the show.
The black hat represents the bad things.
The red hat represents how you were feeling during or after the show.
The green hat represents creativity.
And the blue hat represents what they could do after the show.

Art show

Bonjour bloggers!

All the classrooms in our school did different pieces of art. Rm 1 did fishes and my class did paintings of birds. My bird was a tui.
Here is our paintings

I think that my artwork looked ok but there were some other things I could have done better though. This is only my class's art the other classes did really cool things too.
The hardest thing was probably getting the bird done because if you messed up the bird you had to start again!
I think I nailed the colour of the sea though, it looks really nice.
The Tui above my one is my friends. Check out his blog at http://wpsbenl.blogspot.co.nz/

Matariki artwork

Hi Bloggers!

A while ago we made ponamu (Maori charms)
We used polymer clay to sculpt different symbols and then we cooked them
Here are the pictures.

Here is what we started with.

This is what I finished with.
(it's called the double twist)

Here's how we made them

1. I heated up the clay with our hands so that it was easy to mould
2. I sculpted the twist
3. We gave it to our teacher to be cooked
Later that day we got some cool clay necklaces!
The only hard thing was making the clay easy to mould!
When the clay was easier to mould we got to make our designs that was the fun bit.

Stop motion movies

Bonjour bloggers!
Today we made stop motion movies using the stop motion animator app.
We got play-dough and had to slowly take pictures (frames) of each movement to make it look like it was moving on its own. Stop motion is where you take lots of different pictures moving the character slightly in each photo so that when its all together it looks like a movie.
Here are two of my movies.

I really enjoyed doing this but I think I could make a better and longer animation next time. The first animation is called hide and seek and the second is calling swagness.

Des Hunt visit

Hi Bloggers!
A few weeks ago the author Des Hunt came to our school and taught us all about his life.
He told us about his first ever fictional book (The last Tuatara got published later in 2013) that didn't get published, he said he sent it to every publisher in NZ and got rejected every time. He realised that it was boring when he gave it away to his class (he was a teacher) and only four people finished reading it. His first book that he got published was A friend in paradise published in 2002.

Here are some pictures from the day.
